Computer, Particle Physics and their simultaneity!

The experts during the mid 20th century were deeply peering into history. However, with the passage of time, the calculations carried out by the particle physicists were turning to be more perplexing to fit into a blackboard. In addition, it became very hard for mankind to perform heavy calculations on their own. Thus, in order to cope up with all this negativity, few of the initial electronic computers were developed.

Looking back into history, it had been always clear that physics had been playing a crucial role in upgrading technology. Notably, looking at a transistor also clarifies that how a switch manages the flow of electrical signals within a computer. The transistors were for the first time invented at the Bell Labs, by a team of physicists.

Evidently, there is a huge and massive demand for the astonishing computation of a particle in physics and astrophysics examinations that has dragged the margins of something impossible to make it happen. Computing plays a major role in the progress and has enabled scientific innovations and advancements.

Controlling an onslaught of data!

Back in 1973,  the experts in Illinois, at Fermi Nations Accelerator Laboratory developed their big mainframe computer, for the very first time. It was mainly a seven-year-old hand-me-down model from the Lawrence Berkeley National Labs. The system weighed about 6 tonnes and was called CDC6600. Soon within the time slot of 5 years, Fermi Labs included 5 more huge massive computers to its collection.

With the completion of Tevatron, which is the highest energy particle accelerator worldwide, further used for numerous experiments at the laboratories to offer the particle beams. Earlier the computers were not familiar and the infrastructure of the companies was not established.

Better-performance computing in particle physics and astrophysics!

Astrophysicist, Peter Nugent of Berkeley Laboratories claimed that these computational systems performed well for particle physicists for a longer time span. Hence this clarifies until Moore’s Law began grinding to a halt.

It can be said that Moore’s Law is the idea of utilizing the double number of transistors used within the computers, making them quicker and cheaper. In the mid of 1970s, this term was coined for the first time and proceed for decades. But as of now, computer manufacturers have begun to hit the physical boundaries when it comes to adding many transistors into a single microchip.

Machine learning and quantum computing

The everyday innovations happening in the computer have sanctioned the astrophysicists to shove the varying simulations and analyses to be carried out. Considerably, Nugent noted that the preface of the graphics processing units had made it possible for the astrophysicists to perform the calculations in astrophysics, that also at a quick speed. This has now lead machine learning to grow explosively in astrophysics.

The use of machine learning has made it very convenient to identify the patterns present in the data, due to the algorithms and statistics. Significantly astrophysicists can now easily imitate the entire universe within microseconds. Machine learning is a perfect way to discover fascinating structures in that data.
