According to a report, after Russia’s military operation over Ukrain, the International Olympic Committee requested sports bodies to cancel all the events which are scheduled to be held in Russia and Belarus. Besides this, The International Olympic Committee also urged to stop using the countries’ flags and national anthems.

After the declaration of the Champions League final’s new venue by UEFA, the Olympic body also wants to move all the events from Russia. Previously, the Champions League final was scheduled to be held in St. Petersburg, Russia, but after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, UEFA stripped all the hosting rights of the Champions League final 2022 from Russia. Formula One also cancelled all the upcoming racing events from Russia due to the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

According to the report, many sports, including Volleyball, hockey and shooting, are also having their world championships scheduled to be held in Russia. It has also been reported that The 2023 IIHF World Championship will be held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in May 2023.

Russian troops attacked Ukraine on Thursday, only four days after the closing ceremony of the Winter Games in Beijing, Russia breached the Olympic Truce. As per the report, it is not the first time Russia breached the Olympic Truce, but in the past 14 years, Russia has breached the Olympic Truce twice. Olympic Truce was breached by Russia first time in 2008 during the Summer Olympics in Beijing when Russia invaded Georgia, and then in 2014 during Winter Olympics in Sochi when Russia invaded and annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine.

And, The International Olympic Committee (IOC ) strongly condemned the breach of Olympic Truce by the Russian Government and said that “The Russian and Belarussian governments should take the breach of the Olympic Truce into account and give the safety and security of the athletes an absolute priority.”

Apart from that, IOC also stated that the flags and national anthems of Russia and Belarus should not be used at any international sports events. Besides that,” the international Olympic committee expressed its concerns about the Olympic community member’s safety in Ukraine and also said that it stands with them in full solidarity”.
