An announcement was made by Adam Wainwright on social media early in this year. The announcement said that Adam would pitch for another season. He is the second-oldest pitcher in the National League this year, being just 40 years old. On Wednesday, he would begin with the Wild card game against either the Giants or the Dodgers.
On Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals announced that Adam has reached a one-year-extension with them for the year 2022.
Adam has pitched for Cardinals for his whole career journey, and he said that he doesn’t want to be anywhere else.
Meanwhile, John Mozeliak who is the team president, said that Adam has been a constant in the Cardinals for approximately two decades. He concluded by saying that he continues to perform at an elite level, which seems completely historic in nature.
Adam said that there are chances that the year 2022 would probably be his last, but he is not going to commit to it.
Team owner DeWitt also gave his opinion on this decision of Adam. He said that the entire team is thrilled to have Adam in 2022 and maybe beyond that. He also said that the team looks up to Adam as a lifetime Cardinal, someone whose legacy will sustain among the top players for eternity.
